The second inning saw Colby Lewis throw a lot of balls, and Jonathan Sanchez struggle with his command and allow three runs. The third inning saw both of them settle down a bit.
World Series Game 3, Giants Vs. Rangers: Colby Lewis, Jonathan Sanchez Trade Zeroes
Lewis would make very quick work of the Giants in the upper half. It took him only ten pitches to go 1-2-3 through the 9-1-2 slots of the batting order. Edgar Renteria led off and struck out on a slider that he swore was down and out of the zone. Next, Andres Torres popped out to third base, and to finish it off, Freddy Sanchez sent a first-pitch fly ball into center, where Josh Hamilton was able to flag it down without a problem.
Sanchez then returned to the mound looking to bounce back from a rough frame before. It didn't start so well, when Young lined a base hit into left-center. Sanchez, though, induced Josh Hamilton into a routine grounder to second, Vladimir Guerrero into a routine grounder to third, and Nelson Cruz into a routine grounder to short. Sanchez threw first-pitch balls to both Guerrero and Cruz, which is somewhat troubling, but he survived the inning, which is the most important part of it all.
Guillermo Mota has been warming up in the Giants bullpen, so Sanchez won't last much longer if he gets into more trouble, but for now, he's still in the game, and it's 3-0 going to the fourth.
