Behind 4-0 coming into the seventh, the Giants knew they were running out of time to make something happen against Colby Lewis and the Rangers pitching staff. Now entering the seventh inning stretch, they kind of did get something going, and they kind of did not.
World Series Game 3, Giants Vs. Rangers: Cody Ross Home Run Breaks Shutout Bid
Lewis' seventh lasted 17 pitches - his longest inning since the first. He only faced four batters, though. Pat Burrell struck out for the third time. Juan Uribe bounced a routine groundout. Pablo Sandoval flew out to center.
The one guy who didn't get out was Cody Ross. Ross worked a full count against Lewis and then blasted a fastball into center field, where the ball was able to escape into a shallow row of seats beyond the fence. It was Ross' fifth home run of the playoffs, and it got the Giants on the board.
But that's all they got, and they're still behind 4-1 going into the bottom of the seventh. Jeremy Affeldt is out to pitch for the Giants in relief of Guillermo Mota, and Lewis' pitch count, meanwhile, stands at 93. Recall that Ron Washington has already said that Neftali Feliz would pitch in this game, regardless of the score.
