So much for being in control. If James Shields was sharp through two, he was anything but in the third. He started off by beaning Matt Treanor, and following an Elvis Andrus infield single, he made an errant pickoff toss to first base that allowed Treanor to score. The Rangers wouldn't push another run across in the inning, but they've now been able to take the early lead without hitting a ball hard in the frame.
Rays Vs. Rangers, ALDS Game 2: James Shields Wild, Rangers Strike First
Shields seemed very pre-occupied with Andrus on the basepaths. He made several pickoff throws with Andrus at first, threw a wild pitch behind Michael Young that allowed Andrus to advance, and then made a pickoff throw to second. Andrus is a speedy baserunner, to be sure, but Shields needs to focus more on the task at hand.
