Rays Vs. Rangers, ALDS Game 2: James Shields Knocked Out In Fifth

And that is not how the Rays wanted this start to go. C.J. Wilson shut the Rays down again in the fourth, and then James Shields went and got himself into more trouble an inning later. He beaned Matt Treanor for the second time in the game, and a single by Elvis Andrus put two men on with one man out.

At that point, Joe Maddon had seen enough, and he came out to replace Shields with reliever Chad Qualls. Shields' line:

4.1 innings
6 baserunners
1 home run
68 pitches

Shields allowed two runs, and is currently responsible for two more. While he only surrendered the one home run, it was uncharacteristic wildness that proved to be his undoing this afternoon.
