Rays Vs. Rangers, ALDS Game 2: C.J. Wilson Out With Rays Threatening

This might be Tampa's last gasp as far as Game 2 is concerned. Trailing 6-0 entering the bottom of the seventh, Ben Zobrist led off with a walk, and Willy Aybar followed with a double off the wall in deep center to put two in scoring position. The hit just narrowly evaded the outstretched glove of Josh Hamilton.

Kelly Shoppach then ran the count full before striking out looking on a fastball in the down-away corner. Shoppach dropped the bat and sprinted to first, thinking he'd walked, before he realized he'd struck out, at which point he walked to the dugout while shouting at the umpire.

The pitch to Shoppach wound up being the last of C.J. Wilson's day. His numbers:

6.1 innings
6 baserunners
7 strikeouts
104 pitches

Wilson is responsible for the two runners in scoring position, and Darren O’Day was summoned from the Ranger bullpen to clean up the mess.
