The official line for Tommy Hanson on Friday night: four innings pitched, four earned runs, five hits, one walk. His first career postseason start isn’t quite what he and the Braves hoped it would be.
Giants Vs. Braves, NLDS Game 2: Tommy Hanson Pulled After Four Innings
His night officially came to an end in the top of the fifth, when Nate McLouth was called in to pinch-hit. Our Braves blog, Talking Chop, didn’t like the call:
Hanson is only at 61 pitches, a bit early to go to the pen, he seems to be settling in. Should have several more innings in him.
I hate this move to lift Hanson with no runners on base.
I get it. Hanson is out of the game, so the Braves can now score some runs. Story of his season.
I’m with him here. For a moment I disagreed, because McLouth singled and put men on first and second with Jason Heyward coming to plate. Then Heyward grounded into an inning-ending double play and I agreed with him again.
After the first 13.5 innings of this series, the Giants are looking good and the Braves are looking completely ineffective. As a Braves fan, let me tell you, this is not a very good time.
