With 2010 N.L. Cy Young, Roy Halladay Has Won In Both Leagues

Earlier Tuesday afternoon, Roy Halladay was named the Baseball Writers Association of America's unanimous pick as 2010 NL Cy Young. As such, Halladay became the 13th unanimous Cy Young winner in National League history, and the 21st unanimous Cy Young winner overall.

However, he also became the 16th pitcher to win multiple awards, and the fifth pitcher in baseball history to win the Cy Young in both leagues. Halladay won the AL Cy Young in 2003 with the Blue Jays, earning 26 first-place votes and 136 points, versus Esteban Loaiza's two and 63.

Other winners in both leagues:

Roger Clemens

AL: 1986, 1987, 1991, 1997, 1998, 2001
NL: 2004

Randy Johnson

AL: 1995
NL: 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002

Pedro Martinez

AL: 1999, 2000
NL: 1997

Gaylord Perry

AL: 1972
NL: 1978

The Phillies traded for Roy Halladay, hoping that he’d be able to carry his dominance over into a new park and a new league. It’s safe to say he passed the test with flying colors, and with a long-term contract in place, he looks like a good bet to keep this up in the same place for seasons to come.
