2010 A.L. Cy Young Should Go To Felix Hernandez, Says Blog Network

At 2pm ET - roughly an hour from now - the Baseball Writers Association of America will reveal its winner of the 2010 American League Cy Young Award. Felix Hernandez is considered the frontrunner due to his high innings total and low ERA, but because he won just 13 games for the miserable Mariners, others, like New York's CC Sabathia and Tampa Bay's David Price, should draw strong consideration as well, with one of them possibly ending up the victor.

We'll find out how the writers see it shortly. However, it's interesting to get the fan perspective as well, and so towards that end, we polled our network of AL team bloggers to see who they think is most deserving. Recall that we did this with the N.L. Cy Young as well, with both the blog network and the BBWAA unanimously picking Roy Halladay.

Results shown below:

1st 2nd 3rd 4th 5th Points
Felix Hernandez
21 4 3 1 174
Cliff Lee 4 9 4 1 2 80
David Price 2 5 4 1 3 51
CC Sabathia 1 4 4 4 3 46
Justin Verlander 1 3 3 6 1 41
Jered Weaver 2 2 7 2 30
Francisco Liriano 1 5 1 4 25
Jon Lester 1 1 3 6 19
Clay Buchholz 2 4 2 16
Rafael Soriano 1 1 4
Trevor Cahill 1 2 4
Zack Greinke 3 3

The network has spoken, picking Felix Hernandez as the runaway favorite. What’s interesting is the spread in second-place votes, with eight different pitchers all getting at least one vote. It just goes to show that, when you break down the numbers, there are a number of guys who stand out as having been very, very good all season long.
