Hey, did you hear that the Yankees might be getting Carlos Zambrano? Yeah, the Chicago Sun-Times wrote a story about it and everything -- Big Z might now be the Bronx Bombers' headache.
Want To Send Carlos Zambrano To The Yankees? Start A Rumor!
A lot of dominoes have to fall in line for anything to eventually happen. The Yankees, for instance, didn’t so much as discuss Zambrano during their organizational meetings this off-season, according to a source – unlike last year when they looked at him as a possible buy-low, high-ceiling, change-of-scenery proposition.
So, you know, once they get around to talking about it and everything. But it appears that fans and beat writers of at least one team have gone from seeing the Yankees’ ability to “buy every player they want” from being a bad thing for baseball to being a good thing for their team.
Think about this strategy, fans: Get the Yankees to use some of that lucre to take your high-priced problem players off your hands. Maybe the Seattle media can write a story about how New York might remove Milton Bradley and his $12 million next year.
Perhaps the Yanks could take Scott Kazmir and his $12 million off the Angels' hands, if only the L.A. Times would write about it. Gil Meche is due $12 million next year -- might he look better to the Kansas City media in pinstripes? Or what about Barry Zito, whom the Giants owe more than $18 million in 2011?
Sure, there’s no signs that the Yankees have talked about any of these players this offseason. But they might.
