Paul Konerko Has Received Multiyear Contract Offers From At Least Two Teams

The expectation is that free agent first baseman Paul Konerko will re-sign with the White Sox. He just had a big year in Chicago, there’s a mutual adoration between the two sides, and the team is currently looking for thump in the middle of the order. Indeed, as Jon Heyman puts it, the White Sox are in the driver’s seat.

However, there could be an issue - Konerko and his agent are reportedly seeking a contract worth $15 million per season. Konerko made $12 million last year and won’t be willing to take a pay cut, but the White Sox don’t want to pay him much more, as they’re nearing their budget and also want to address their thin relief corps.

Eager to jump in and take Konerko away, Jon Morosi reports that at least one other team has made Konerko a multiyear contract offer. The terms of the offer aren’t known, and neither is the offering team or teams, but what matters is that, while Konerko looks like he’s going to re-sign with Chicago, the White Sox have competition.
