One of the great things about the SB Nation community is the ability to see real-time reactions to events in the sports world from passionate fans. Yesterday’s stunning swap of Vernon Wells from the Toronto Blue Jays to the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim (we’re still going with this, huh?) was no different.
Vernon Wells Trade Produces ‘Cash’ Clouds From Blue Jays And Angels Fans
The diehard fan or schadenfreude-loving observer could check out the comments at Bluebird Banter for joy and Halos Heaven for sorrow and panic. But the Orange County Register’s Sam Miller went the extra mile, compiling word clouds of the Blue Jays fans’ and Angels fans’ threads that tell the whole story in a couple of colorful graphics.
You can see those after the jump, but, rest assured, “cash” is a factor.
Here’s the Bluebird Banter cloud:
The enormous "AA" is for Blue Jays general manager Alex Anthopoulos, who gets hailed as "Jedi-like" and "genius" in the thread for pulling off a "amazing" "dream" deal that shed most of Wells' massive contract. And "Hahahahaha" seems like a popular reaction for the average Blue Jays fan, too.
I can only assume the "Pujols" is wishful thinking that Anthopoulos can lure the Cardinals slugger to Toronto at some point.
The Halos Heaven cloud is a lot less kind.
As you can see, cash is on the mind in both communities, but the Angels fans aren't exactly praising their squad's general manager, Tony Reagins: "stupid," "sucks," "bad," and "worst" are all prominent, and if you squint, you can see "embarrassing" and "drinking."
And yes, there are some profanities excluded from the Angels fans’ cloud: a four-letter word for copulate appears on the page 31 times, narrowly edging a four-letter word for excrement, which appears 30 times.
