Wandy Rodriguez Signs Three-Year Contract Extension To Stay With Astros
The contract buys out Rodriguez’s first two years of free agency, and is worth $34 million. Additionally, there’s a vesting fourth-year option that would push the deal to a total value of $44.5 million. Rodriguez earned $5 million a year ago through arbitration, and has now set himself up as an eight-figure player.
The 32-year-old Rodriguez is a southpaw who’s really come into his own over the years. Since 2008, Rodriguez has thrown 538 innings over 90 starts, posting a 3.36 ERA made all the more impressive by the tiny dimensions of his home ballpark. He throws one of the league’s better curveballs and is a solid bet to remain a productive member of the Astros’ rotation so long as he keeps himself healthy.
