Baltimore Orioles reliever Alfredo Simon is being investigated for his role in a New Year’s Eve fatal shooting. But while he’s caught in an ugly situation, he is getting help from a couple former teammates.
Alfredo Simon Being Helped By Miguel Tejada, Julio Lugo In Police Investigation
Former Orioles infielder Julio Lugo has taken an “active role” in trying to help the reliever. And another former Orioles infielder - Miguel Tejada - is reportedly covering the cost of Simon’s powerful legal team. According to Dan Connolly, Tejada isn’t familiar with the attorneys on a personal level, but took the advice of some friends in choosing the right firm. Says Tejada:
“Alfredo is a kid I really love a lot, he is in trouble right now, and that’s what we do, we stick together,” Tejada said. “We wanted some big company attorneys, there are some good ones here in the Dominican and this is a special case.”
During a New Year’s Eve dispute, police believe that Simon twice shot a gun in the air, and that the bullets came down and struck 25-year-old Michael Esteban Castillo Almonte and his 17-year-old brother, killing the former. Simon and his representatives are reportedly adamant that the pitcher was not involved.
