Cardinals fans, it seems, can breathe easy. On Tuesday, staff ace Chris Carpenter left the mound after suffering an apparent injury, but Jim Bowden is now reporting that the injury isn’t disastrous.
Chris Carpenter’s Injury Is Strained Hamstring, Classified As Minor
Carpenter officially strained hamstring...minor injury
The Cardinals absolutely could not afford to lose Carpenter for an extended period of time. Just last week, they learned that they would lose Adam Wainwright, last year’s Cy Young runner-up, to Tommy John surgery. With a healthy Carpenter, though, the Cards can at least build an effective rotation around him, Jaime Garcia, and Jake Westbrook.
Carpenter may well have escaped a jinx on Tuesday. As our Cardinals blog, Viva El Birdos, pointed out prior to Carpenter’s injury, he was featured on the cover of the Cardinals Annual alongside... you guessed it, Adam Wainwright.
