Andrew Bailey To Have Injury Examined By James Andrews

Earlier Monday, Oakland A’s closer Andrew Bailey had to leave a Spring Training game with an arm injury. Nobody was saying much afterwards, aside from the team’s official statement that he had elbow discomfort, but now we’ve got a little more information.

A’s manager Bob Geren characterized it as forearm tightness. Reached by text, Bailey then said that he has both elbow discomfort and forearm tightness. And on Tuesday, he’s going to visit with the famed Dr. James Andrews for an examination.

Andrews, one notes, performed Bailey’s Tommy John surgery way back in 2005, and visits to his office seldom have a happy ending. But Bailey says that he doesn’t feel now the way he did back when he tore his elbow ligament, so that’s a good sign. Still, one has to be concerned. Bailey has a history, and pitchers with histories have a tendency to keep writing new chapters.

We should know a lot more on Tuesday or Wednesday.
