Josh Beckett Cleared For Baseball Activities After Concussion

When Josh Beckett suffered a mild concussion on Monday, there was some reason for Red Sox fans to worry. Here was a talented and important starting pitcher walking off the field with his hands on his head after a stray ball got away from a team staffer and nailed Beckett in the skull. Wasn’t it Justin Morneau who initially suffered a “mild concussion”? Isn’t Justin Morneau still working his way back? This could’ve been bad.

Fortunately, it isn’t bad. Beckett said he was feeling much better on Tuesday, and now on Wednesday, we get word that team doctors have cleared Beckett to resume participating in baseball activities. Which means running and throwing and generally moving around in a baseball kind of way. In other words, Beckett shouldn’t be limited in any way by this little mishap.

He’s still going to miss his scheduled Thursday start, but other than that, everything appears to be peaches. Barring any surprise setbacks, Beckett should be just fine in plenty of time for Opening Day.
