After Adam Wainwright underwent Tommy John surgery on his elbow, the last thing the Cardinals needed was for something to happen to one of their other star players. Then, on Tuesday, Chris Carpenter departed a game with the trainer, and everybody started freaking out. Carpenter was the team's best remaining starter, and he's a guy with a long injury history. Now what? Was he going to miss the entire season too?
Chris Carpenter To Miss One Start With Injury
No. The official diagnosis was that Carpenter had a strained hamstring, which came as a great relief to everybody. And while strained hamstrings can be kind of big deals, Tony La Russa told the media Wednesday morning that Carpenter should only miss one start with the injury.
La Russa added that Carpenter could miss two starts and still be ready to go by Opening Day, so in conclusion, Carpenter should end up just fine, and the Cardinals have avoided a complete disaster scenario. The staff has been weakened by the loss of Wainwright, but Carpenter’s still a fine guy to have out front, and the team will keep its sights set on winning the NL Central.
