Chris Carpenter Throws Successful Bullpen, Nears Return From Injury

Given everything they've already gone through, the Cardinals didn't need anything to happen to Chris Carpenter. So when Carpenter injured his hamstring during a Spring Training start, spirits were low. And when that hamstring acted up during a bullpen on Sunday, it pushed back Carpenter's expected return date and left his status as Opening Day starter an open question.

Now, though, there’s good news. Carpenter attempted another bullpen Tuesday morning. And this time, he felt good, with no complaints. Nothing in his hamstring, and nothing anywhere else. Where two days ago Carpenter said he felt a “twinge”, on Tuesday it was all peaches.

So Carpenter may be able to make his scheduled start this coming Friday after all. We’ll have to see on that, but for now, what’s important is that Carpenter’s looking better today than yesterday.
