Corey Hart Oblique Injury Still Not Healed

About a week and a half ago, Brewers outfielder Corey Hart left the field with an oblique injury sustained after making a throw. Initially, Hart was expected to miss about two weeks of action. But here we are now, on March 8th, and the picture still isn’t very rosy:

Hart said he’s due to see the doctor again today but isn’t expecting great news.

“I still get random sharp pains in it when I make certain moves,” he said. “It’s still a pretty big area that’s sore, so they can’t really inject one spot (with cortisone). It’s very frustrating.

“Every day is Groundhog Day. I get up hoping it’ll feel better but it’s the same. It’s kind of plateaued. What’s frustrating is that I was in the best shape of my life and this happened.”

An oblique injury doesn’t measure up with, say, a torn ligament or a broken wrist, and in the long run Hart should be just fine. But this slow recovery process is casting his Opening Day status in doubt, and while he may still make it back in time for the season opener, there’s a question now, where there wasn’t a question before.
