Jason Bay To Return To Mets From DL On Thursday

Last we heard, New York Mets outfielder Jason Bay was still weeks away from returning to the team as he attempted to recover from an injury to his ribcage. General manager Sandy Alderson said that Bay would come back on April 26 "at the earliest."

But now? Now there’s good news! From Andy Martino:

Per the Mets, Jason Bay will continue rehab Tuesday and Wednesday in St. Lucie, then rejoin big league Mets on Thursday.

Bay rehabbed with St. Lucie over the weekend, and his games were completely incident-free. As such, the Mets feel comfortable bringing him back, and it's expected that he'll be in their starting lineup for Thursday's night game against the Astros.

While Bay has been out, Willie Harris has shouldered much of the load in left field, going 12-44 with a .792 OPS. Bay's OPS in his first year with the Mets last season was just .749, but with his track record of reaching base and hitting for power, they'll be happy to slot him back into the core of the order.
