The Pittsburgh Pirates lead the Reds, 2-0, after hitting two no-doubt home runs off Johnny Cueto in the second inning.
NL Wild Card, Reds vs. Pirates score update: Home runs give Pirates 2-0 lead
Marlon Byrd and Russell Martin both went deep in the second inning to put the Pirates up early.
Cueto had little trouble getting through the first inning, allowing just a walk to Andrew McCutchen. However, the Pirates' first batter of the second inning, Marlon Byrd, launched a poorly placed change-up over the left field wall to draw first blood.
Two batters later, Cueto left a fastball right down the middle of the plate that Russell Martin hit deep into left field. Sandwiched between the home run balls was a deep fly out off the bat of Pedro Alvarez.
Pirates' starter Francisco Liriano has been spectacular, keeping the Reds off the basepaths while throwing 17 strikes in 21 pitches.
