Tigers vs. Athletics 2013 ALDS Game 5 score: Detroit takes a 2-0 lead

Miguel Cabrera shook off his ALDS struggles and delivered a two-run home run to put the Tigers up.

The Tigers struck first in Thursday night's battle against the Athletics for the right to advance to the 2013 ALCS. Miguel Cabrera took a Sonny Gray fastball deep to left in the fourth to give the Tigers a 2-0 lead in Game 5 of the American League Division Series.

Gray had been cruising, facing the minimum through three frames before getting into trouble in the fourth. Torii Hunter was the first player break through against Gray, getting a hit on ground ball up just ahead of the Cabrera blast. After allowing Cabrera to put the Tigers on top, Gray struggled to get out the inning, giving up back-to-back two-out singles to Victor Martinez and Jhonny Peralta before getting Omar Infante to ground out to stop the bleeding.

Justin Verlander continued to dominate Athletics hitters in the third and fourth, holding them hittless with five strikeouts and no walks.
