Tigers vs. Red Sox score update, ALCS Game 2: 1-0 Tigers, Bottom 2

Alex Avila’s RBI single is the difference in the early going.

After nearly being no-hit by Detroit last night, the Boston Red Sox have turned to right-hander Clay Buchholz to put the team back on track. Buchholz, who went 12-1 during the regular season, made easy work of the Tigers in the first inning, recording his first strikeout of the night against Torii Hunter.

Max Scherzer, who went 21-3 during the regular season, also picked up his first strikeouts of the night against Dustin Pedroia and David Ortiz, though he also allowed the first baserunner of the night by plunking Shane Victorino.

In the second inning, Buchholz struck out Prince Fielder before giving up the first hit of the night, a hard-hit double to left-center field by Victor Martinez. Jhonny Peralta scalded a single to left field, but the ball was hit so hard that Martinez was held up at third base. However, Alex Avila picked up the RBI by stroking a single up the middle, putting Detroit up 1-0.
