Tigers vs. Red Sox score update, ALCS Game 2: 5-1 Tigers, Bottom 7

The Red Sox finally get on the scoreboard against Max Scherzer.

After Detroit's offense broke through in the top of the sixth inning, Max Scherzer went back to work with a 5-0 lead. The righty quickly picked up his 10th strikeout of the night, but he also allowed his first hit -- single to left-center field by Shane Victorino with two outs. Second baseman Dustin Pedroia followed Victorino's single with a double off the Green Monster, giving Boston its first run and third hit of the series.

Rookie Brandon Workman returned to the mound for the Red Sox in the seventh inning. He allowed Miguel Cabrera to drive a ball to deep center field, but it wasn't deep enough; Jacoby Ellsbury settled under the fly to record the out.

John Farrell yanked Workman with two outs in the inning, electing to bring in southpaw Felix Doubront to face the lefty-hitting Prince Fielder. Fielder grounded out to end the inning.
