The results are in for the Oakland Athletics: It'll be surgery for outfielder Josh Reddick and pitcher Sonny Gray, and rest for pitcher Jarrod Parker. All three players should be ready for Spring Training next year, reports Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle.

Reddick will undergo an arthroscopic procedure on his right wrist, which was a problem for him throughout the 2013 season. He initially injured it on April 7 while diving for a fly ball in Houston, but returned on April 12 after missing only three games. However, the sprain lingered, and the right fielder ended up hitting the disabled list twice and playing in only 114 games overall. His production suffered, possibly as a result of the injury, and he batted only .226/.307/.379 with 12 home runs after swatting 32 long balls in 2012. On the bright side, he maintained his Gold Glove defense and collected nine outfield assists.

Gray suffered a UCL tear in his left thumb while fielding a sharp comebacker off the bat of Prince Fielder in ALDS Game 5, and will require surgery to repair the injury. The 23-year-old burst onto the scene this year, posting a 2.67 ERA in 64 major league innings before out-dueling Justin Verlander with eight shutout innings in Game 2 of the ALDS. The rookie took the loss in the decisive Game 5.
Parker underwent an MRI on his right elbow after experiencing tightness in the joint during his Game 3 start, and the diagnosis was a forearm strain which should require only rest to heal. This is a best-case scenario for the 24-year-old right-hander, who underwent Tommy John surgery on the same elbow in 2009. Parker went 12-8 with a 3.97 ERA this season and is expected to be a major presence at the top of Oakland’s rotation in 2014.
