2013 ALCS: Detroit Tigers starters set strikeout record

Detroit is rolling along on the mound in the ALCS, showcased by its record-setting strikeout numbers.

The Detroit Tigers pitching staff has been absolutely lights out in the first four games of the American League Championship Series against the Boston Red Sox.

In those games, the Tigers have racked up 42 strikeouts, which is the most through four games of any MLB postseason series in history, according to ESPN.

Detroit started off on the right foot when Anibal Sanchez threw six no-hit innings to start the series, amassing 12 strikeouts in the process. In the second game, Max Scherzer did Sanchez one better, sending 13 Red Sox back to the dugout feeling empty.

Come Game 3, Justin Verlander struck out 10 with Jose Veras added one more, bringing the staggering total to 35 before Doug Fister tallied seven K's.
