Tampa Bay Rays pitching prospect Taylor Guerrieri has been suspended for 50 games for use of a drug of abuse, according to Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times. It is Guerrieri's second drug violation, and Topkin reports that the drug in question is believed to be marijuana.

The suspension isn’t likely to affect Guerrieri, though, as the right-hander is expected to sit out most of the 2014 season after undergoing Tommy John surgery in July.

The 20-year-old Guerrieri is a big part of Tampa Bay's future plans. After being selected 24th overall in the 2011 draft, he dominated Low-A ball in 2012 and Single-A ball in 2013 before tearing his UCL. In 119 career minor league innings, the youngster has posted a 1.59 ERA while striking out 96 batters and giving up just 17 walks. He was ranked as the No. 44 prospect in the entire minors in MLB.com's preseason rankings, and jumped up to No. 28 overall during the season.
