Dustin Pedroia misses home run by inches, confirmed by replay

Pedroia nearly gave the Red Sox a 3-0 lead, but grounded into an inning-ending double play instead.

Boston Red Sox second baseman Dustin Pedroia just missed a three-run homer by a few inches, pulling the ball just left of the foul pole in left field.

Max Scherzer issued two walks to begin the bottom of the third inning. Shane Victorino popped out on a bunt attempt for the first out of the inning, bring Pedroia to the plate with two on and one out.

Pedroia jumped on the first pitch he saw from Scherzer, crushing the offering just foul:

The umpires called the play foul, then went and confirmed the call with instant replay. FOX showed an up-close replay; you can see the shadow of the ball on the foul pole:

The foul ball was a little too close for Scherzer’s comfort, who intently watched the ball travel down the line:

Pedroia ended up grounding into a double play to end the inning.
