Both teams plated their first runs of the game during the fifth and six innings, but the Detroit Tigers lead the Boston Red Sox 2-1 heading into the top of the seventh.

Victor Martinez gave the Tigers a 2-1 lead with a RBI-single in the sixth.
Clay Buchholz issued a one-out walk to Austin Jackson in the top of the fifth, but erased the runner by forcing Jose Iglesias to ground into an inning-ending double play.
Boston scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the fifth inning. Max Scherzer retired the first two hitters of the inning, but Xander Bogaerts crushed a two-out double to left-center field, putting a runner in scoring position with two outs.
Jacoby Ellsbury followed with a single to right field, and Bogaerts beat out the throw to score the first run of the game.
Ellsbury attempted to steal second base, but Alex Avila gunned him down, ending the inning. The outfielder was only caught stealing four times during the regular season, successfully stealing 52 bases on 56 tries.
The Tigers took their first lead of the game in the top of the sixth. Hunter led off the inning with a walk, then Miguel Cabrera followed with a single. That prompted John Farrell to lift Buchholz, bringing in left-handed reliever Franklin Morales to face Prince Fielder.
Morales issued a four-pitch walk to Fielder, loading the bases for Victor Martinez. The designated hitter crushed a 2-1 offering from the reliever, driving in two runs with a single off the Green Monster:
Farrell brought in Brandon Workman to face Jhonny Peralta with runners on the corners and nobody out. Peralta grounded the ball to Dustin Pedroia, who tagged Martinez out running to second base. Pedroia then fired the ball home, catching Fielder in no-man's land.
Fielder attempted to make it back to third, but fell just short:
Workman struck out Avila to end the inning, but Detroit still exited the inning with a 2-1 lead.
Scherzer plunked Shane Victorino to start the bottom of the sixth, then issued a walk to Pedroia. David Ortiz lined a ball to left field but Don Kelly, who pinch-ran for Peralta in the top of the sixth, ran down the ball for the first out of the inning.
Scherzer threw a wild pitch while facing Mike Napoli, allowing both runners to advance to scoring position. The starter recovered after the pitch, striking out Napoli and forcing a Jarrod Saltalamacchia popout to strand both runners.
