Free agent Justin Morneau is "on the Rockies' radar" as the team looks for a new first baseman following Todd Helton's retirement, reports Troy Renck of the Denver Post.
Justin Morneau on ‘Rockies’ radar’ in free agency
Morneau is not the same player he once was, but can still be a steady presence.

Colorado made an offer on Cuban slugger Jose Dariel Abreu before he signed with the Chicago White Sox. How much they were offering remains unclear. Regardless, the team's interest shows that it sees first base as a key priority in the offseason.
Morneau, 32, would be a cheaper replacement, if not long-term. The former AL MVP is coming off a big contract he originally signed with the Twins, but his production has gone down significantly in recent years. Over the last three seasons, he has a .256/.319/.406 batting line with 40 home runs in 355 games.
If the team is unable to find a full-time first baseman over the offseason, they are open to the possibility of playing Michael Cuddyer there most of the time in 2014. Jordan Pacheco spelled Helton at first base most often when Helton needed a day off this season.
