Joe Mauer injury: Twins C symptom-free from concussion

Mauer still has not partook in any baseball activities, but should be good to go for spring training

Elsa

After missing the last six weeks of the season due to a concussion, Twins catcher Joe Mauer is symptom-free and nearly healthy, reports the St. Paul Pioneer-Press.

Manager Ron Gardenhire appeared on the radio Tuesday and said that Mauer has not shown any symptoms from the injury, a synopsis with which general manager Terry Ryan agrees. Mauer is not experiencing headaches anymore, nor are his eyes as sensitive to light.

Mauer still has not performed any baseball activities and has a short ways to go before he would be ready to play again. Pitchers and catchers do not report to spring training until Feb. 16 for the Twins, so he will have plenty of time to rest up and get back to 100 percent before he needs to shake off any rust.

Mauer sustained the concussion on Aug. 19 when he took a foul tip off the catching mask while playing the Mets. Over 113 games, he hit .324/.404/.476 with 11 home runs.
