New York Mets reliever LaTroy Hawkins will test the open market when he becomes a free agent this offseason, reports the Long Island Newsday.

Hawkins remains interested in a reunion with the Mets, but will not re-sign with the team before he officially enters the market five days following the World Series.
An interest in a return appears mutual. The Mets had previously said that they would be open to bringing Hawkins back to Queens if he is interested in returning.
Hawkins, 40, pitched in 72 games for the Mets in 2013. He posted a 2.93 ERA and 1.15 WHIP while also picking up 13 saves while filling in for an injured Bobby Parnell. He had originally signed a minor league deal with the Mets prior to the season.
Given the fact that he will be 41 next season, any contract Hawkins signs is likely to be just for one year for a similar value as the $1 million he made in 2013.
