World Series Game 2, Cardinals vs. Red Sox score update: St. Louis, Boston remain scoreless after 2 innings

After two innings, Game 2 of the World Series remains scoreless behind excellent early results from Red Sox veteran John Lackey and Cardinals rookie Michael Wacha on the mound.

Wacha picked up right where he left off in the NLCS, striking out two of the first three hitters he faced and limiting contact to a single pop out in the first inning. He struggled to find the zone briefly in the second inning, walking Mike Napoli with one out and falling behind Jonny Gomes before getting him to fly out on the ninth pitch of the at-bat, but through two innings the rookie struck out two and has yet to allow a hit.

For Boston, Lackey was nearly as effective with two Ks of his own, but he did give up one hit in each inning. In the first, Carlos Beltran managed a single on a sinking liner that landed just out of reach of the diving Gomes.

Yadier Molina then led off the second inning with a bloop single to right field, but Lackey shook that off and retired the next three hitters in dominant fashion, striking out Allen Craig with the same knee-buckling curve that helped him handle the Tigers in Game 2 of the ALCS.
