David Ortiz home run gives Red Sox 2-1 lead in Game 2

David Ortiz put the Red Sox on top of the Cardinals 2-1 in the sixth inning with blast into the monster seats.

David Ortiz has done it again. The Red Sox DH hit his 17th postseason home run off Cardinals starter Michael Wacha in the sixth inning to give the Red Sox a 2-1 lead in Game 2.

Wacha had dominated Red Sox hitters over the first five innings, striking out five as he out-dueled a strong John Lackey effort, but he ran into trouble in the sixth. With one out, Wacha gave up his third walk of the evening to Dustin Pedroia. With the count 3-2 against Ortiz, Wacha went to the change-up that had been so effective through the first five innings and Ortiz crushed it.

Lackey continued to hold the Cardinals to just one run through the sixth and, apart from Matt Holliday's triple, he has overpowered Cardinals hitters. He breezed through a one-two-three fifth inning and got back at Holliday in the sixth, striking out him swinging for his fifth K of the game. Matt Adams recorded the Cardinals' fourth hit with a seeing-eye grounder in the sixth, but Lackey quickly retired Yadier Molina on a ground out to end the inning.
