2013 World Series: Game 3 lineups

David Ortiz and Daniel Nava both start for the Red Sox, and Matt Adams stays in the order for the Cardinals.

The 2013 World Series is tied at a game apiece, and the series shifts to Busch Stadium for Game 3 on Saturday. The Boston Red Sox won Game 1 thanks in part to some shoddy defense by the St. Louis Cardinals, and the Cards won Game 2 thanks in part to some shoddy defense by the Sox. With the designated hitter eliminated in the National League park and the DH’s forced to don gloves and play the field, defense (or lack thereof) could continue to be a theme in this series.

To illustrate this point, David Ortiz is in the lineup for the Red Sox at first base after playing the position just six times during the regular season. Daniel Nava is also starting, which Rob Neyer believes should have happened more often this October.

1. Ellsbury - CF
2. Victorino - RF
3. Pedroia - 2B
4. Ortiz - 1B
5. Nava - LF
6. Bogaerts - 3B
7. Saltalamacchia - C
8. Drew - SS
9. Jake Peavy - SP

Meanwhile, the Cardinals are sticking with Matt Adams at first base for Game 3, although Allen Craig is likely to start at least one game in St. Louis. The rest of their lineup is similar to what they’ve put on the field throughout the playoffs.

1. Carpenter - 2B
2. Beltran - RF
3. Holliday - LF
4. Adams - 1B
5. Molina - C
6. Freese - 3B
7. Jay - CF
8. Kozma - SS
9. Joe Kelly - SP

Jake Peavy is taking the hill for Boston, and St. Louis is countering with Joe Kelly. Both pitchers are right-handed. Peavy was solid in his ALDS start against the Tampa Bay Rays, but he got shellacked by the Detroit Tigers in the ALCS; he allowed seven runs in three innings in his ALCS Game 4 start. Kelly hasn’t pitched past the sixth inning in any of his three postseason starts this year, but has generally kept his team in the game when he’s been on the mound.

The broadcast kicks off at 8:07 p.m. ET on Fox.
