Cardinals jump out to 2-0 lead

The St. Louis Cardinals struck first against the Boston Red Sox, scoring two runs in the bottom of the first inning to take a quick 2-0 lead.

Joe Kelly had no issues retiring the side, including an impressive strikeout of Jacoby Ellsbury on a nasty two-seam fastball:

Kelly also made an impressive barehanded snag on a Shane Victorino groundball:

Matt Carpenter led off the bottom half of the inning with a single. Carlos Beltran followed with a drag bunt, failing to reach base but advancing Carpenter to second. Matt Holliday then roped a single to right field, driving in Carpenter for the first run of the game.

Matt Adams and Yadier Molina followed with back-to-back singles, which plated Holliday for the second run of the game. Peavy recovered after the fourth single, recording two consecutive outs to end the frame.

Cardinals hitters were very aggressive in their half of the inning, noted by Buster Olney of ESPN:

St. Louis enters the top of the second with a 2-0 advantage.
