Manager roundup: Cubs narrowing list, Mariners and Tigers interviews

There are just three managerial vacancies remaining in the MLB.

Tigers interview Ausmus

On Monday, Brad Ausmus became the third man to interview for the Tigers' managerial vacancy, reports MLB.com.

Ausmus had drawn a large amount of attention as a potential manager this offseason despite the fact that his lone experience at the helm of a team was managing Israel in World Baseball Classic qualifying. He currently works with the San Diego Padres as special assistant to baseball relations.

Though he does not have a vast amount of experience, Ausmus is well-respected as a highly intelligent individual with a strong baseball acumen and great people skills. He spent 18 years as a major league catcher with six franchises, most notably the Houston Astros.

Mariners interview Wotus

The Seattle Mariners have interviewed long-time Giants' bench coach Ron Wotus for their open manager job, reports Jon Heyman of CBS Sports.

Wotus has held his position with the Giants for 14 seasons and has been in San Francisco for his entire post-baseball career. He worked as a minor league manager beginning in 1991 before being promoted to third base coach in 1998. The following year, he moved to his current job.

Seattle is rumored to have a long list of candidates and does not appear close to naming a manager anytime soon.

Cubs search clearing up

The Cubs manager search is progressing as the team is likely to narrow down their list of candidates soon, reports the Chicago Tribune.

President of Baseball Operations Theo Epstein has gone on record as saying he wants a manager in place by the General Manager meetings, which begin Nov. 11. That gives him just another two weeks.

Rick Renteria is seen as the favorite for the position, but the Cubs also appear to be waiting for the World Series to be over so they can interview Red Sox bench coach Torey Lovullo. A.J. Hinch is also in the running though Dave Martinez and Manny Acta appear to be on the outside looking in.
