Fielding Bible award winners announced

The Fielding Bible has released it’s eighth annual list of winners for best defender at each position in the MLB.

Mike McGinnis

The Fielding Bible has released their award winners for 2013 defensive players of the year at each position. Unlike the Rawlings Gold Glove awards, the Fielding Bible does not separate between the American and National Leagues.

Here are this year’s winners:

C: Yadier Molina (Cardinals)
1B: Paul Goldschmidt (Diamondbacks)
2B: Dustin Pedroia (Red Sox)
SS: Andrelton Simmons (Braves)
3B: Manny Machado (Orioles)
LF: Alex Gordon (Royals)
CF: Carlos Gomez (Brewers)
RF: Gerardo Parra (Diamondbacks)
P: R.A. Dickey (Blue Jays)

According to the Fielding Bible, the top three seasons in runs saved all came in 2013. Simmons set a record by saving 41 runs, followed by Parra’s 40 and Gomez’s 38. No other shortstop this year came close to Simmons’ season: Second best were Pedro Florimon and Clint Barmes, with 12 runs saved apiece.

In addition, Molina’s award is his sixth in the eight years the Fielding Bible has doled them out. An MVP candidate in 2013, he has long been known to be one of the greatest defensive catchers of all time.

All ten players also have a chance to win a Rawlings Gold Glove award as each was named one of three finalists at their position. Gold Glove winners will be announced Tuesday night at 8:00 pm ET.
