Detroit Tigers third baseman Miguel Cabrera had successful surgery to repair a "core muscle," the team announced on Tuesday. He is fully expected to be healthy and ready for spring training.
Miguel Cabrera injury: Tigers star has surgery to repair muscle
Cabrera was hobbled for the last month of the season and the playoffs, but is expected to be healthy for spring training.

The Tigers announced last week that he had been playing through a grade 2-3 groin strain. Cabrera will now undergo 6-8 weeks of rehabilitation to strengthen the area before returning to full baseball activities in preparation for the 2014 season.
Despite continuing to play, Cabrera was clearly uncomfortable down the stretch and was limited in what he could do. Cabrera's power dropped off heavily in September as he hit just one home run and posted a .333 slugging percentage. He still was able to get on base at a .395 clip. His struggles continued into the postseason when he hit for a .262/.311/.405 line against the Athletics and Red Sox.
The 2013 AL Hank Aaron award winner, Cabrera won his third straight batting title this season with a .348 batting average while also leading the league with a .442 OBP and .636 SLG.
