Pirates vs. Cardinals NLDS score: Game 1 all square through the 2nd

A pitchers’ duel has broken out early on at Busch Stadium.

Things have started pretty quietly for the Cardinals and Pirates in Game 1.

Both A.J. Burnett and Adam Wainwright put together quiet frames in the first, and Wainwright is still perfect headed into his third inning of work. While he's already got two strikeouts to his name, he has needed 29 pitches to get through the first two frames.

Burnett got in a bit of a jam in his half of the second. Back-to-back singles from Yadier Molina and Jon Jay to lead off the their part of the frame put the Cards in good position to take an early lead, but a force out at second and a double-play ground ball from Daniel Descalso ended the threat.

In addition to his two hits, Burnett has allowed the only walk in the game, losing an eight pitch battle with Matt Holliday.
