The San Diego Padres are interested in working out a trade for Angels' first baseman/outfielder Mark Trumbo, reports Bill Shaikin of the Los Angeles Times.

It was reported yesterday that the Angels were shopping either Trumbo or outfielder Peter Bourjos in return for young, cost-controlled pitching. The team is lacking starters behind C.J. Wilson and Jered Weaver and have a large budget due to bloated contracts to Albert Pujols and Josh Hamilton.
Trumbo--who has hit 95 home runs in three full seasons--would immediately slot in as the top power threat for a Padres team that had just two players break the 20-home run mark in Jedd Gyorko and Will Venable. While Trumbo does not get on base particularly well, the Padres have not had someone with that much power since Adrian Gonzalez was traded.
Whether the Padres have the pitching to trade for Trumbo is questionable. Many of the team's young pitchers have had Tommy John surgery and may not be viable in a trade. Cory Luebke, Joe Wieland and Casey Kelly all missed the entire 2013 season.
Top healthy pitching prospect Robbie Erlin had a disappointing 2013 season in Triple-A that sunk his stock while Max Fried and Matt Wisler--the Padres sixth and seventh best prospects at the beginning of the season according to John Sickels--are young and not major league ready.
