Mets looking to trade Ike Davis or Lucas Duda

One of the team’s first baseman is likely on the way out of town, though who it will be is undecided.

The New York Mets are hoping to trade either one of their first baseman, Ike Davis or Lucas Duda, this offseason, reports the New York Daily News.

The Mets are rumored to prefer keeping Duda over Davis, but would trade the player for which they can get the biggest return. Teams needing a first baseman have already called New York asking about the players availability. The Mets are not sure which player will have the most interest in the offseason yet.

Davis hit 32 home runs in 2012, but has struggled to get on base in the majors and started 2013 with heavy struggles. He was sent to Triple-A Las Vegas, where he hit well. After a call-up at the beginning of July, it appeared he had found his swing again before an oblique injury ended his season before September.

Duda took over at first base for the final month, posting a 719 OPS with four homers, but striking out 30 times in 28 games. If Duda stays in New York, the Mets could look to platoon him with someone like Josh Satin. Duda has an 817 OPS and 37 of his 44 career home runs against right-handed pitchers while Satin has an 862 OPS against lefties.

One of the two players appears to be on their way out of New York. Which that will be remains to be seen.
