Byrd would like to return to the team that gave him a chance before the 2013 season.

Byrd began the 2013 season with the Mets, but was shipped to the Pittsburgh Pirates on Aug. 27 in a waiver-wire trade. The outfielder spoke glowingly about his time in New York, telling Ackert:
“No questions asked, I loved my time there. I loved the staff, I loved the players, I loved the city. There is not one negative thing I could say about the organization.”

He has talked with Mets general manager Sandy Alderson about his interest in re-signing in New York:
“I’ve talked to Sandy, I told him thank you for the opportunity at the beginning of the year and thank you for the opportunity to play for a winner. I told him, ‘If you want me back, I would love to come back.’”
Byrd had a disastrous 2012 campaign, capped off by a 50-game suspension for violating the Joint Drug Agreement. New York decided to give Byrd another chance, signing him to a minor-league contract with an invitation to sprting training.
The outfielder responded with one of his best seasons, batting .285/.330/.518 with the Mets. Byrd has been named a finalist for the National League Comeback Player of the Year award.
