The Detroit Tigers jumped out to a 3-0 lead over the Oakland Athletics after two innings in Game 1 of the 2013 American League Division Series on Friday.
2013 ALDS Game 1, Tigers vs. Athletics score update: Detroit leads Oakland, 3-0, after 2 innings
Five Tigers hitters reached base during a three-run first inning in Oakland.
A's starter Bartolo Colon took a while to get settled in, allowing the Tigers' first three batters to reach base before getting Prince Fielder to ground into a double play. Austin Jackson led off the game with a double and scored on Miguel Cabrera's RBI single, which came after Colon hit Torii Hunter with a pitch. Hunter was the first batter Colon plunked since May 20, 2012.
Hunter scored on the double play and Victor Martinez, who doubled with two outs, crossed the plate on a single by Alex Avila.
Colon recovered in the second inning, setting the Tigers down in order. Detroit starter Max Scherzer had no trouble with Oakland's bats until Yoenis Cespedes tripled with one out in the second. MLB's wins leader during the regular season bore down and retired Josh Reddick and Stephen Vogt to end the scoring threat.
