Tigers vs. Athletics score update: Both teams scoreless through 2

Sonny Gray and Justin Verlander have both thrown a pair of quality innings.

The Oakland Athletics and Detroit Tigers have both been quiet on offense, leaving Game 2 of the ALDS tied 0-0 after the first two innings.

Athletics starter Sonny Gray tossed a scoreless first inning, recording a strikeout and two groundouts while giving up a two-out single by Miguel Cabrera.

Justin Verlander responded with a perfect bottom of the first, working around long at-bats by Coco Crisp and Jed Lowrie to retire Oakland in order.

Gray ran into a little trouble in the top half of the second. Alex Avila drew a one-out walk, followed by a Don Kelly two-out single. Jose Iglesias followed Kelly's at-bat with a grounder to third, ending the threat.

Kelly received a wake-up call from Jhonny Peralta when he stood in the on-deck circle when a foul ball honed in on his cup:

Verlander recorded two strikeouts in the second inning, working a clean frame for the second straight inning.

The top of the Tigers order will face Gray in the third inning, while Verlander will throw against the bottom third of the Athletics order.
