Clayton Kershaw will start Game 4 for Los Angeles, not Nolasco

The Los Angeles Dodgers just can’t make up their minds. Kershaw is now starting Game 4.

Daniel Shirey-USA TODAY Sports

Earlier this week, the Los Angeles Dodgers were considering starting Clayton Kershaw against the Atlanta Braves in Game 4 on Monday on only three days' rest. Then, Monday morning, pitching coach Rick Honeycutt announced that Ricky Nolasco would get the nod. And now, the team has shifted course again and formally announced that Kershaw will indeed start Game 4.

Kershaw has never made a start on three days' rest in his major league career, in either the regular season or the postseason, so there is no precedent to suggest how the limited break between games might affect him. If he falters, though, the Dodgers will have Zack Greinke ready for Game 5.

In Game 1 of the series on Thursday, Kershaw allowed only one run in seven innings while striking out 12 batters. The Dodgers won that game 6-1. The 12 strikeouts were a postseason career-high for Kershaw.
