The defending American League champion Detroit Tigers are on the ropes and could be eliminated at the hands of the Oakland Athletics on Tuesday. The Tigers are down 2-1 in their American League Divisional Series and are one loss from an early offseason.
Athletics vs. Tigers, 2013 ALDS Game 4: Time, TV schedule, starting pitchers and more
Rookie Dan Straily will face Doug Fister in an attempt to eliminate the Tigers from postseason play.
Doug Fister will take the mound for Detroit in what will now be the most important start of his season. He made 32 starts for the Tigers in 2013, earning a 3.67 ERA and 1.31 ERA.
Not known as a big strikeout pitcher, Fister nonetheless sat down 159 batters to just 44 walks.
Arguably Fister’s worst start came against the Athletics on Aug. 28. That day, he pitched five innings but allowed seven runs on 13 hits while striking out just two batters.
Over his career, he has a 3.17 ERA against Oakland in 12 starts.
Opposing Fister will be Dan Straily, who is making his first playoff appearance with the Athletics. Just 24-years-old, Straily will hope to follow Cardinals' pitcher Michael Wacha as a rookie pitcher coming up big in the postseason.
Straily posted a 3.96 ERA over 27 Major League starts in 2013. He struggled for the first few months of the season, but since the start of July has a 3.15 ERA and has held opponents to a 667 OPS.
First pitch is scheduled for 5:07 pm EST. You can catch the action on TBS.
