A’s vs. Tigers Game 4 ALDS score update: Detroit holds 8-4 lead through 8 innings

The Tigers have opened up a four-run lead after eight innings in Game 4, jumping out to a 8-4 lead over the A's as they head to the ninth.

Oakland broke a 3-3 tie in the top of the seventh thanks to an RBI single up the middle from center fielder Coco Crisp -- his third hit of the day. The knock came off of rotation ace Max Scherzer, who relieved Doug Fister after the sixth:

The A's couldn't hang onto the lead for long, however. The questionable decision to pull starter Dan Straily (after only 76 pitches) in favor of Sean Doolittle led to a game-tying home run off the bat of Victor Martinez to start the bottom half of the seventh:

The ball was obviously interfered with by a fan, but the umpires ruled that the ball was already over the wall when the fan touched it. Thus, it stood as a home run whether or not it looked like Josh Reddick might catch it, making it a 4-4 game.

Doolittle's day ended shortly thereafter following a double by Jhonny Peralta and an RBI single by Austin Jackson, giving Detroit a 5-4 lead.

The A's looked to take the lead right back when they loaded the bases with nobody out in the top of the eighth, but Scherzer somehow managed to escape the inning unscathed. The Cy Young favorite got huge strikeouts of Reddick and Game 3 hero Stephen Vogt, then got pinch-hitter Alberto Callaspo to line out to center to end the threat.

Omar Infante followed the wild pitch with a two-run double down the left field line, giving his club a four-run cushion headed into the final frame.
