Escobar led off the bottom of the sixth inning with a deep double into left field off of Jake Peavy that fell just short of being a home run. He advanced to third when Jose Lobaton grounded to the right side of the infield, bringing mid-season trade acquisition David DeJesus to the plate with one out. On a 1-1 count, DeJesus grounded up the middle for an RBI single, breaking a scoreless tie.
One more fly out ended the night for Peavy, as he was replaced by Craig Breslow midway through the sixth. Peavy pitched 5⅔ innings, allowing the one run on five hits while striking out three.
On the pitching side for the Rays, Alex Torres came on in the fifth inning for the Rays to relieve Matt Moore. He allowed a single and hit Shane Victorino with a pitch, but did not have many problems maintaining the tie. That was the third time in this series that Victorino was hit. The team's medical staff briefly looked him over, but he stayed in the game. Torres also pitched a perfect sixth inning.
Tampa Bay is looking to stay alive in the series down two games to one and facing elimination from the playoffs.
