Pitcher Kip Wells has officially announced his retirement, reports Jerry Crasnick of ESPN.

The 36-year-old Wells has pitched in just seven major league games since 2009, all of which came in 2012 with the Padres. He spent part of the 2013 season in the Angels' farm system, making six starts for Triple-A Salt Lake and posting a 10.36 ERA.

His best season came in 2003 with the Pirates, when he posted a 3.28 ERA and 1.25 WHIP over 31 starts. In addition to the Pirates, Padres and Angels, Wells has spent time with the White Sox, Rangers, Cardinals, Rockies, Royals, Nationals and Reds.

Over parts of 12 major league seasons, Wells made 296 appearances, including 219 starts. He finishes his career with a 4.71 ERA and 1.51 WHIP. He struck out 6.5 batters per nine innings while walking 4.3. Wells led the league in losses twice, walks once and wild pitches once.

Though his playing days are officially over, Wells hopes to remain in baseball and is seeking to find a front office position, according to his agent (via Crasnick).
